17th February 2011 - Psychologists in the Pub

Topic:
The effect of chewing gum on self-rated and physiological measures of mood and stress.

Event details: The facilitative effect of chewing gum on cognitive performance has proven controversial (e.g. Wilkinson et al., 2002; Tucha et al., 2004; Johnson and Miles, 2007, 2008). However, recent findings (e.g. Scholey et al., 2009) have intimated that such benefits may be contingent on chewing gum elevating mood and reducing stress (although reductive stress effects were questioned by Torney et al., 2009).
