Student Members Group

What is the SMG?

The Student Members Group (SMG) is part of the British Psychological Society and is run by students for students. When you join the Society as an undergraduate psychology student, you automatically become a member of the SMG, qualifying you for many benefits.

What does the SMG do?

The SMG provides you with access to a network of psychology students across the UK and brings you into closer contact with leading professional psychologists. It gives you the opportunity to get involved and shape the future of the discipline. The SMG works to develop new services for students, improve connections with international networks and represent students throughout the Society to ensure that your voice is heard.

The SMG gets involved in events specifically aimed at students, such as the London and Manchester Lectures, and each year holds an Annual Conference alongside the main BPS Conference, where you even get the chance to present your own research! The SMG also provides a close link with the European Federation of Psychology Students’ Associations (EFPSA), publishes a quarterly magazine called Psych-Talk, and releases regular newsletters and information through student representatives at each university.

How do I join?

To become a member of the SMG, just apply for student membership of the society.

Want to do more?

If you'd like to do more, why not become an SMG representative for your university, college or school, or consider applying for a committee position? It's a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the running of the Society.
